The irrational exuberant (Thanks Greenspan) celebration of the people of Israel commemorating the 50th years anniversary of the foundation of their state last week is still a celebration of an illusive goal as ever.
As the Television and radio airwaves smothering us with stories about the Israelis accomplishments and the Israelis triumphs in building their new small country. This over rejoice of the American media toward the state of Israel is still indicative of the American fascination of the Jewish state 's and her dominance arrogance attitude.
This great celebration of the state of Israel 50th anniversary has ignored the historical facts in this troubling region and the juvenile behavior of its leaders in both sides.
The one eyed Zionist movement that had applied all means necessary to achieve its goal which have been applauded by the Americans has driven millions of the Palestinians out of their original homeland.
The press corroboration in covering this event in a great proportion short of some token coverage about Palestinians in some press, has failed to address the Palestinian question that recently both Arabs and Jews finally are trying to find an answer. The human drama with the heavy price and the terrible fate that millions of the Palestinians people had paid in the last 50 years is a direct result of this so called "historical event" .
The blood of thousands of Arab children and their families who have been killed in cold blood that raises a moral question in the heart of the Israeli Anniversary and put a stain on its celebration. The thousands of defenseless voiceless unsophisticated Palestinian villagers in Deer Yassine, Shateela and the West Bank who were driven from their homeland is another 50th celebration of homeless and desperation. This humiliation of millions faceless Arabs who have been turned into refuges in their own homeland will keep knocking on the Jewish state's conscious forever. A whole generation of Palestinians who has growing up without childhood or memories of it that they would like to forget. As an Arab-American where I grew up the drums of war have been beaten for 50 years resulting in five Arab-Israel terrible wars and nothing to show for. The biggest accomplishment that the Israelis have achieved is getting their old foe Yasser Arafat himself is to act as their only grantor of the security of Israel.
As I see the irrational exuberant reaction by children of Israel dancing and singing in the street I can't help it to remember the human drama and human suffering behind this so called "biblical event".
As a young teen growing up in the Middle East in the sixties accustoms to the sandbags always blocking the sun in the horizon, I remember when people stop smiling, and children stop playing. I remember vividly when my dad replaced my favorite beautiful painting Mona Lisa on our wall with a picture of a Machine gun.. I remember the marching bands filling the airwave with their war like music. And the famous Arab Frank Sentra singer Abd Elhaleem Hafez stopped singing about love and start singing about war. The "Zinnias Israelis along with the imperialist Americans are going to bomb us again" they radio said. They are sending their ships with new smarter missals; They are sending this Phantom bombers; the ones that you can't see. They said on the radio that Israel is declaring a war against us; against our people. They said on radio that Israel the thorn in our back is attacking our schools and killing our children and women. I could not as a child understands why the Israelis would be bombing us and our houses, schools and hospitals. In the 67 war the destruction and the runes of my village were evidence everywhere and the place that was once called home was wiped off forever. I couldn't play, I couldn't visit my friends, I couldn't go to school. I lived under ground with my family for days. I saw that for the first time the fear on my dad's face, and his eyes was full of anguish and tears. Everyone was crying for help in vain, and the smiles on a lots of my friend faces have vanished and part of my childhood was forever gone.
The over covering of the Israeli 50 years anniversary in the press here is nothing short of cross-eyed witness news, a news coverage that is unable to see the Arab side of the story, the Palestinian tragedy; the tragedy of a real biblical proportion.
The media coverage of the Israeli accomplishments in the last 50 years that was shoved in our faces on all major newspapers front pages and main television station is another example of how the media here is in the business of news making not news coverage. The American press is still unable to come and see the soft side of the Arabs and try to depict them as human the same way they do when covering only the human side of the Jewish people. The press is ignoring the fact of the Israeli aggressions nature in Palestine, Lebanon and other Arab neighbors where millions of people's life have changed for ever, and the continuing blatant attempt of the Israeli to violate international laws in developing and positioning Nuclear weapons is hardly a deserved celebrating accomplishment. .
Let us not spoil the party here, but let us all join the dance. The Israeli's 50th birth party is taking place on the death and the destruction of thousands of innocent Arab children and women, it is a stained accomplishment of indefensible Palestinian Villager's blood who were over ran by the Israeli Terrorist Ben Gorinian group. Let us all celebrate the new birth of a new idea not a new country. This idea that Rev. Marthen Luthor King's dream had propagated long time ago. The new idea that we are as Arabs and Jews all deserve to live together in dignity regardless of nationality, religion or race. Let us all try to find the humanity in not just our own children faces but in all children faces. Let us all resist the temptation of self-righteous and self-importance. Let us stop competing on who suffred the most and compte on who gave the most. Let us get god out of the real estate business and stop getting hung on who has the right and do what is right. Let us get creative, let us all live and let live. Let the children of Israel grow up of their fixation on self-preservation and security. Israel has the third most powerful military forces in the world.
In the sprit of the Festival of Nations held this week in Minnesota, let us all celebrate.
In the New World order that over promised us new ideas and creativity thinking, has proven to be big on bringing new countries and nationalism. We have enough counties in the world what we need is new ideas, new way of thinking. Only then, can the Palestinians and the Israelis together live on this promise land. Only then can the Muslims and Serb in the former Yugoslavia, Hutos and Tutusis in Ruwanda, the Catholic and Protestant in Northern Ireland all can live together in peace. Then this is the well-deserved celebration accomplishment.
