America please… Bend over…           

I had my annual physical this week. My doctor casually asked how things are going. “Well doc, if you really want to know,” I said, “I’m kind of depressed.” “What seems to be the problem?” he asked uninterestedly. More than 25 years ago I left a country that had a corrupt government and a president who lied and never leveled with the Egyptian people. He was a president who ran the country as if it was his province, making sure that his policies enriched only the few cronies around him. His lies about wars and foreign threats were recycled and recounted over and over again.  At one point he introduced a new mantra that “No voice above the voice of the military struggle” would be allowed in order to liberate Palestine. He discredited all the opposition, labeling them as unpatriotic traitors. Now I live in a country with a president who keeps on misleading the American people, recycling lies and discrediting opponents whom he calls unpatriotic. He has adopted scandalous international policies that enrich only a few of his cronies and caused the rest of the world to hate us . . . 

I went on with this self-destructive ranting for a while until I heard the doctor’s soft voice: “bend over please.”  All of a sudden my position changed. I didn’t feel depressed anymore, and the world problems in a perverse way seemed very minimal. You can’t think about world affairs from this position, you know? So for all the American people who are depressed over our current state of affairs, living in an era with a clueless president who managed to make a spectacle of our nation internationally and domestically, with unending wars, and an administration that is run by incompetent indicted criminals, here is my advice to you: Please “bend over America.” Believe me, this will change your perspective on world affairs, and only then you can understand what president Bush is actually doing.
