Dear visitor,

Ahmed Tharwat

For more than seven years now, a group of forward-looking, truth-seeking Americans and Arab Americans have been working together to produce the Arab-American TV program, Belahdan, on the Twin Cities’ cable public access channel. For the last five years, people from all across the state of Minnesota have been enjoying this unique show on public TV, Channel 17. Belahadan is the only local TV program that offers an insightful and personal perspective on Americans of Middle-Eastern origin. It is also a show that encourages cross-cultural dialog produced by “hyphenated” Americans who want to make a difference.

We are asking you today to help us to raise awareness of the rich culture of the Middle East and to encourage acceptance of diversity and enrich the cross-cultural dialog. Please become a sponsor of our program today.   Why is becoming a sponsor so important now?

We need your help now more than ever to meet the new challenges that the Arab-American community is facing.  After September 11th, Arab Americans seem to be experiencing a kind of emotional and cultural interment. Maintaining a low profile, they are living through the Justice Department investigation, probable FBI racial profiling and little scrutiny from the media and Congress. They are confused, watchful, and, most of all, apprehensive about their future. Our TV program is embarking on a new era in which we give the Arab American a new voice.

We need to bring the community to speak out and define themselves. We need to let America know what we really feel and what we think and NOT let those few twisted-minded idiots hijack our destiny.

Here are our objectives:

1.  Bring the Arab-American community into the culture diversity realm.

2.  Introduce the Arab-American culture to the American community at large in the context of their American experience.

3.  Introduce the diversity and the multiculturalism within the Arab American community itself.

4.  Introduce the different views of the Arab Americans through alternative TV programming.

5.  Give the Arab American another voice to represent their own views of current events, events that have an immediate impact on the Arab-American community here in Minnesota.

Thank you..

Ahmed Tharwat
