Dear Sir or Madam

Right after the tragedy of 9/11 a question was raised addressing the sanity of Arab/Muslim world… why do they hate us… Arabs and Moslems have been usually defined by the main stream media as either villain or victims. We need to tell the stories of Arab as they really are. That got me thinking, how we can assure that Arab the Americans story is told without any distortion or exaggeration; very simple, it needs to be told by Arabs themselves.

Are Arabs/Moslems inherently hateful creatures? Do Muslims hate America for what it does or for what America is? Is Islam - as a prominent American evangelical once suggested - a religion of violence? Is our Allah a hateful god? All these questions had hovered over my head throughout my trip like a heavy cloud

I’m very excited to announce that Belahdan and Twin Cities Public Television are working together on a new TV project called “Why do they hate us”. The program will be a journalistic examination of the complexity of the relationship between Egyptians and America/Americans in the post 9/11 era.

We are asking you today to help us in producing this special program so we can raise awareness of the rich culture blending of East and West and to encourage acceptance of diversity and enrich the cross-cultural dialog.

Here are the objectives of this special project:

1.      Bring the two communities into the culture diversity realm.

2.      Introduce the Arab culture to the American community at large in the context of their own experience.

3.      Introduce the different views of Egyptians through alternative TV programming that has the patience to cover and bring the complexity of this issue.

4.      Give the Arab another voice to represent their stories through their own stories.
