Girls’ Night
OutIN:The Secrets of Middle Eastern Women
Revealed at Female-only House Party!
All-women orchestra, female DJ, and clips from Arabic music videos
featured in new Jawaahir Dance Company Production
Leave it to Cassandra Shore and Jawaahir Dance Company to come up with a fresh, totally unique evening of music and dance that teaches us something about the world and ourselves—exploring how a group of women in the Middle East come together for an evening of exuberant fun in a sometimes restrictive society. Girls’ Night
OutIN is an ecstatic, eclectic, energizing and enlightening evening of contemporary dances from the Arabic-speaking world. Featuring the all-woman al Hareem Orchestra, Cassandra and company explore the enchanting energies of the usually unseen: a night behind the screens in the women’s quarters.
“Girls’ Night
OutIN focuses on the strong female friendships that are so important in that part of the world,” says Cassandra. “No matter where we live, women need a safe environment in which to express themselves, be creative, and to encourage each other’s creativity. It’s as true here as it is there, and we can learn a lot from each other.”
In addition to the al Hareem Orchestra, and the 18 dancers in the cast, Girls’ Night
OutIN will feature a female DJ and clips from Arabic music videos which recently began being broadcast in the Arabic-speaking world. “It’s a stunning indication of modernization in such an ancient culture,” Cassandra says.

“…Cassandra is so poised, self-determined and in command of herself, that she radiates an authentic, deep and powerful sense of original femininity. Politically speaking, a quality of ‘feminism’ that transcends the women/men dichotomy…. archetypical quality of femininity that commands natural respect through the presence of real power.” Axel Fussi Head of Trans-Culture Communication for Culture in Vienna, Austria, April 2007
