Dr.
Shafi A. Khaled is from Bangladesh. Professionally, he has major written works
on the industrialization of Bangladesh and vocational education for the
impoverished rural youth there.
Shafi is an economist by training having doen his graduate studies first at the
Dhaka University and then at the U of MN. Father of three boys, Shafi and his
wife, Taslima came to the US in 1979. Until late 2007, Shafi was the Director,
Development & Relief Program of NABIC - a 17 year old US non-profit
organization.
In the past, Shafi has been Education and Social Director of the Islamic Center
of Minnesota, Fridley-Columbia Heights.
Currently, Shafi is the Executive Director of C2C (Community to Community), a
non-profit organization. Among several activities of this organization one
could include: "Abstinence- A Totally Personal Total Choice" for non-Muslims
based on the 1,400 years plus stable Muslim experience. It's an alternative to
AA and its 12 points pgm; "Professionalizing the Muslim Weekend School";
and "Modern Parenting for Immigrants - Managing Urban, Nuclear-Family
Lifestyle".
Shafi and Taslima have worked in Louisiana for a short spell following Hurricane
Katrina. Between 2000 and 2004,
they have been instrumental in funding, cooking and serving food to citizens
outside the Muslim community at the Bloomington Community Ctr., MN, serving up
to 175 guests at one sitting.
Shafi loves to cook and garden. He is a published poet with one book in English
("The Pied Piper Plays the Banshee") and three in Bangla. He has another book
of poems, "Verses for Reverses" waiting publication and a novel, "Odyssey
Brewing" in the works. He is also working on a religious treatise he calls,
"Connecting from the Pulpit: Principles and Practices".
